From 13 to 17 May 2019, Dr. Elisabeth Lex will visit TU Delft at the invitation of Delft Design for Values Institute. Dr. Elisabeth Lex is an assistant professor at Graz University of Technology and she heads the Social Computing research area at Know-Center. Her research group applies computational models of human cognition to improve the performance of online systems (e.g., recommender systems, social media) and at the same time gain a deeper understanding of fine-grained level dynamics in Social Information Systems.
Dr. Lex’s work contributes to two of the themes of the DDfV Institute: Value Operationalization, and Value Assessment. Her work on credibility assessment and trust in recommender systems allows us to translate our values about misinformation and filter bubbles into technological norms and concrete design requirements. This work is strongly grounded in evaluation using behavioral user data, including budding work in simulations of systems over time, which allows us to assess value realization in design/engineering outcomes.
During the week of the visit, DDfV will organize three events to connect the work of TU Delft researchers and Dr. Lex:
- Tuesday 14 May: DDfV Fundamentals lecture about Value Assessment
- Thursday 16 May: Playground meeting about Value Assessment: exploring related TUD projects with Dr. Lex.
- Thursday 16 May: Workshop, taking a deeper dive into “Theoretical concepts and models that impact assessment of credibility”.
Furthermore, Dr. Lex will be available to meet with researchers of all DDfV faculties interested in developing approaches with regard to Value Operationalization and Value Assessment. If you are interested in meeting with Dr. Lex in this week or at the events, please contact her directly, or contact DDfV.
